A Piece of Phantasmagoria

After looking all around the internet for this anime last night I finally found a good video with all the 15 episodes in Japanese with English subtitles.

 A Piece of Phantasmagoria is a 15 episodes series of 5min each. It tells the story of the towns and citizens that make Phantasmagoria a wonderful place. This anime was created by  Tamura Shigeru. It was released in 1995 but it is based on the illustration book published in 1989 by Kakuusha.

Making and tracking lists.

Just wanted to share two sites I’ve been using a lot lately to keep lists of my dramas and movies.

It is free and it allows you to do as many lists as you want of whatever you want. It is available for iPhone (wish it was available for android). It is quite good and simple to use. They also let you “customize” your profile with a background and changing the colors of your list just like if they where post its. You can also favorite other users lists and it haves a lot of other nice things on it so check it out.

MyDramaList.com

On mydramalist.com is oriented to Asian dramas and movies (Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong). The good thing about this that it lets you keep track of what you are watching or have watched. You can set up the what you want to watch what you have on hold and what you started to watch but stopped watching. Also it lets you write reviews about the movies or dramas. You get to read other peoples reviews and comments as well so you can decide what you want to see or even recommend others any drama or movie.

Rurouni Kenshin.

Earlier today I finally got to see Rurouni Kenshin live action movie. I’ve been waiting for this movie to be done for more than 10 years. I was pretty excited when some years ago I read somewhere that it would be done into a live action. Of course I was worried cause I wasn’t sure how that would turn out. If the story would change if the actors won’t do the characters well and so on.

I have to say that I am more than pleased with the movie. It did stayed loyal to the characters and the story of the whole anime. I never read the manga cause it is way to long but I also never finished the anime ’cause it was around 95 episodes and back in the day (circa 1996) they repeated them a lot on tv so I kind of lost track of it. Anyways… I did saw the OVAs and a movie but again it was so long ago that I barely remember the main plot of those just random detail. No worries… I am already downloading the whole thing again so I can watch it again. 

 If you are wondering what I am talking about I will share some info and links with you so you get an idea of what everything is about. Rurouni Kenshin is about Himura Kenshin formerly known as the Hitokiri Battosai becomes a wanderer to protect the people from Japan. The story takes place during the early Meiji Period in Japan.

A little side note… 

It means a lot to me. While I was watching it with my dad he was asking me who the character where… even my sister did. It felt good, really good that they still remember the names and people on it after all this years. My dad used to watch it with me sometimes and I fed up everyone in my house with it. Yes, Rurouni Kenshin was my first anime. I fell in love with it. This was the series that made me fall in love with Japan and the Meiji Era. It made me a happy otaku back then. I was on my first year of college and I remember that I woke up at 8:00AM just to watch this before leaving to college. If I couldn’t see it I would leave the VCR recording it and watch it later. Ouh Yes I did. I remember that I got so much into the Meiji Period that I spent a lot of time on the college library reading, copying and taking home books related to this era. Good times. Good times. I bought all the toy characters and have them very well kept on their original packaging. Thank You.

Moonrise Kingdom

After watching Moonrise Kingdom understood what all the fuss was about. 

If you haven’t watch it please do so. 

Another brilliant movie by Wes Anderson. 

A simple story told by a fantastique cast. 

I also watch The Darjeeling Limited from the same director.

Catfish

So I went downstairs to look up for water and my family was watching a movie on HBO. I didn’t knew what movie it was but while I was using the printer I actually got to pay attention to it and asked the name it seemed interesting. I started laughing because of the situation of the moment cause some of us have been there. 

The movie is named Catfish. It is about this guy that starts receiving paintings from a 8yr old girl named Abby. He ends up talking to the whole family and friends (Abby’s family) via facebook. He gets to know Abby’s older sister named Megan and he starts falling for Megan and keep a relationship over the internet since both live FAR away.  I saw until that point and it got me all interested.

So I went upstairs to actually watch the rest. I don’t know when it happen but he founds out some of the stuff Abby’s family is sharing with him doesn’t match so he starts tying knots. Then it gets a whole more interesting. I wont tell you anything else cause I would be a waste if you want to see the movie.

I found the movie really interesting and that is why I am writing this here. Even if it is fake or scripted (which I don’t think it is but who knows cause there are some rumors about it) I actually don’t care cause this things really happen. It wouldn’t be the first or last. It also makes you think about what you share or post on the internet. Sometimes we share personal stories we people we don’t even know just because we feel that we connected. There are many reasons to do so but still we should always be careful. I am grateful that most of the people I have met are good people that because real friends. Frankenweenie is ALIVE

Went to the movie theater to se The Avengers… which by the way is the best super hero movie done to date. Before the movie started I was walking towards the ladies room when I saw this poster.

My heart was in shock. I couldn’t believe it. I finally saw the poster for Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie. You have no idea how many years this have been a project and now it is a reality. I actually posted about this on this blog back in 2007. So yes I was really really impressed with this. Frankenweenie is one of the Tim Burton’s babies. It is a movie he shot over two decades ago. Back in 2007 when they announced that Tim Burton was going to make Alice in Wonderland they also informed about this movie but since I never heard/read about it again I believe it was all On Hold again. 

Frankenweenie could become this generations The Nightmare Before Christmas since it they are using the stop motion as they also did for The Corpse Bride. The fan in me went actually crazy and I can’t wait for the movie to be out and go to the movies and watch it. Still I have to wait. But for me it will be so worth it. I have high hopes for this movie even when people will say a lot of things I know that this will be GRAND. This movie means a lot to Tim since he have been waiting for ages to do this they way it should have been done on the beginning. At least October is just “around” the corner. I’m so looking forward to this. About freaking time this movie deserves attention and recognition.

Harry Potter… the end.

Yes. The end of an era have arrived. Harry Potter last movie came out last week. I have to admit that I was actually sad and excited at the same time. Sad because it all ends here but happy cause the end would be grand.

I got my ticket earlier because I feared that the tickets would be sold out. Perhaps I believed I was still back home and people would go all crazy about the movie but I was wrong. The movie theater was all kind of empty and I loved that. It meant I could enjoy the movie with out people bothering around mey. I also got this awesome 3D glasses shaped like Harry’s glasses.  So cool! Yey!

Got there on time. Sat down and watched the previews that took forever. Then the movie started. During the movie I cried and laughed a lot. I felt like a little child. Loved the movie even when I knew some detail might be missed on it. The next days I downloaded the book cause I have mine back home in Puerto Rico. I read some of the key chapters so I could compare or well find out what they left out on the movie. The chapter 33 is a MOST read chapter cause you can really appreciate the whole Snape and Lilly relationship on the book.

I am actually in love with Harry Potter series now more than ever. You see like I have said before I’ve this tumblr thing and people are just posting so many things related to all the movies that it is insane… and at the same time it makes sense cause you can tie up details from different books. It is amazing. I am also looking forward to Pottermore.com. That is gonna be insane when it opens up on october. Well I hope they do open on october and that the page doesn’t crash again like it did last month.

If you havent seen the movies or read the books you should. I am 32 years old now and I started like 10 years ago so I was not that young. I started the first book and I couldn’t stop reading them. It is a good story you just can’t deny that. You just can’t. Sorry. If you have kids read the books to them. Keep the story alive. It is worth it. It is an excellent way of communicating with your kids and making them interested in reading. Their imagination will grow and develop at the same time. Come Closer

I just watched the movie a few days ago. Loved it and well had to do this video from the movie ’cause I didn’t found info on the OST. This actually like the last 7min of the film. If you have not watched this movie look for it and watch it. It is really good. It is about 5 couples and their relationships. It is an indie movie. Give it a try.

The Other Guys & Schemes.

Last month I went to see the movie The Other Guys with my sister and some friends. The movie was dumb stupid but so damn funny. Way bizarre than what I expected to be since it haves gorgeous Mark Wahlberg and your friendly comedy man Will Ferrell. People complain while watching it saying it was stupid but I didn’t saw anybody leave the room.

Anyways the whole cast was weird but so awesome together. Very different from many funny movies and that made it kind of special. The theme even when it was covered with lots of stupidity it is really serious and something that happens. I got this at the end of the movie with the -so far- best end of credits ever. If you stayed until the end and watched it like I tried to do well good for you. The information provided was great compliment to explain in a “serious” way what the whole movie -besides been funny- was really about at the end.

In case you found the movie too bizarre and didn’t got deep into the movie let me tell you the whole subject was about a Ponzi Scheme using the police retirement fund. The word Ponzi -in this case- comes from Charles Ponzi who is considered one of the greatest swindlers in American history. A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned. I tried to watch the end of credits but the crew wanted to leave cause it was kind of late but I watch almost all of it. I learned a few things that night.
